Text engl. - Photographically illustrated with 11 mounted original albumen prints approximately 4x3 inches (10.2x7.6 cm.), with printed captions on mount recto, attributed to George Washington Wilson, and engravings by Birket Foster and John Gilbert. With 20 p. of publisher’s advertising. - Other ed.: 1863; London 1865. - An early example for the use of albumen prints for book illustration. Photo motives are of Scottish landscape scenery. On the book market for more than six years this volume seems to have been a successful „longseller“.
