Text fr. - *Dating is not easy as the title page was probably changed with deliveries. The title page at the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam lists „Collection de 50 planches“ in 1840 (for the 4th delivery). Though the original illustrations were b&w steel engravings a hand colored version is known to exist at the Library of Congress, Washington, DC. Several of the original daguerreotypes have been found which served as examples to produce the engravings (e.g. Pattinson daguerreotypes, Robinson Library, Newcastle-upon.Tyne), see below. - Text by Paul de La Garenne, F. Goupil and many others; daguerreotyped by N. P. Lerebours [and others]. Originally issued in 15 parts ("livraisons") 1840-1841. See Open Library OL6714021M [http://openlibrary.org/books/OL6714021M/Excursions_daguerriennes.]. - The Excursions Daguerriennes [Daguerreian Travels, representing the most remarkable views and monuments in the world] was published in Paris by Noël-Marie Paymal Lerebours between 1841 and 1864. The volumes were sold by subscription and in the end contained more than one hundred views [114 according to Wikipedia, 07.2011] of Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East shot between 1839 and 1844. - Lerebours sold equipment and taught the process to a number of intrepid daguerreotypists. He then sent his students to exotic locations around the world, where they could make daguerreotypes for him. He also accepted views from independent daguerreotypists and eventually received approximately 1200 plates. Antoine Claudet, the first professional daguerreotypist in England, was of French origins and passed Pattinson's view of Niagara Falls on to Lerebours. - [The only way in which a daguerreotype could be printed was by making an engraving from the plate. The daguerreotype process produced a laterally reversed image, there being no negative. The engraving is traced from the daguerreotype and then turned over to give the "correct" orientation of the subject. Extra details were often added to engravings to add more "interest." On note des plaques de Hugh Lee Pattinson, Frédéric Goupil-Fesquet, Pierre-Gustave Joly de Lotbinière, Edmond Jomard, Noël-Marie-Paymal Lerebours... La table de la 2e série (dont les livraisons débutent en 1842) annonce 2 planches gravées directement sans retouches selon le procédé d'Hippolyte Fizeau : pl. 19 "Hôtel de Ville de Paris", pl. 24 "Un des Bas relief de Notre-Dame de Paris". Une 3e s'y ajoute dans certains exemplaires : la "Maison élevée rue St Georges par M.
