From the publisher: "One of the most interesting artistic personalities of his generation, Oliver Boberg has, since the late 80s, been making small models of urban settings, which he then photographs in such a way that their model quality almost totally disappears. The reality presented in his photographs of underpasses and flat-roofed buildings is one of a non-location, a place which is so familiar that it could be anywhere and nowhere. Boberg's videos from 2002 and 2003 show nocturnal landscape views which seem to be based on film scenarios, but these works, too, reproduce scale models. The 16mm films transferred to DVD show eerie situations which are devoid of people: a foreboding cliff or a country road seen at twilight during a dreary rainstorm. The model of this non-location here becomes a detail of a story which is rich in allusions, charged with a cinematic suspense and fearful expectation. She has curated numerous exhibitions as well as thematic shows such as La Vidéo, un art, une histoire. David A. Ross has a 38 year career as a museum professional, educator and arts entrepreneur. He directed the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston (1982-90), the Whitney Museum, New York (1991-98), and SFMoMA, San Francisco (1998-2001). Ross has lectured at various universities across the U.S., and has served as juror and commissioner at a broad range of international exhibitions, including the Venice Biennial and the Carnegie International.(Publisher’s text).

Text dt., engl. - „Mitch Epstein (*1952 in Holyoke, Massachusetts) zählt zu den herausragenden amerikanischen Photographen der Gegenwart. Die Publikation veranschaulicht die Entwicklung von Epsteins Werk anhand von zwei sehr unterschiedlichen photographischen Serien. Recreation – American Photographs (1973–1988) steht in der Tradition der amerikanischen »Street Photography« und schildert Alltagssituationen, die Grundsätzliches über das Leben in den USA der 1970er- und 1980er-Jahre aussagen. In der Zufälligkeit der Begegnungen dokumentiert sich die Offenheit einer pluralistischen Gesellschaft, deren Freizügigkeit Jahrzehnte später verloren gegangen zu sein scheint. Dies lässt die zweite Photoserie mit dem Titel American Power vermuten, mit der Mitch Epstein 2003 begann. Sie lenkt den Blick auf einen der zentralen Machtfaktoren Amerikas, die Energieindustrie, die nicht nur in die Gesellschaft, sondern auch in die Natur eingreift und beide verändert. Text dt., engl. - Georg Aerni, born 1959 and educated in Winterthur (Switzerland), has graduated as an architect at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. He lives and works as a self-educated photographer in Zurich. His photographic work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in various museums and private galleries in Switzerland and also in solo exhibitions in Berlin, Barcelona and Paris. He is also represented in public and corporate art collections in Switzerland. Stephan Berg, born 1959 in Freiburg im Breisgau (Germany), has been director of the Kunstmuseum Bonn (Germany) since 2008. Moritz Kung, born 1961, trained as interior design draftsman in Zurich before studying interior design at Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and later art history at the University of Brussels. He has been curator of the exhibition program at deSingel, Internationale Kunstcampus in Antwerp (Belgium) since 2002.
