Text engl. - „During the past fifteen years of his career as an artist/photographer, Hanson has documented-- often in aerial photographs that are deceptively, inexorably beautiful-- some of the devastations that humans have inflicted and continue to impose upon the environment. Each of the four photographic series in this book provides a different look at the consequences of our actions. - Waste Land opens with a series of photographs of strip mines in Colstrip, Montana that Hanson created in the early 1980s, a series he describes as "a chronicle of entropy, an elegy for a lost landscape." Beginning with photographs depicting trailer parks and company houses-- void of any human presence-- the vantage point moves upwards through images of the community's mine, power plant, and industrial site, to aerial shots that become increasingly abstract. Ultimately, the series reveals Colstrip as arena and metaphor for the use, misuse, and abuse of power. - Hanson's Minuteman Missile Sites series focuses on one aspect of the American industrial and military landscape: bleak aerial views of silos, each containing a missile with a destructive potential nearly a hundred times that of the bomb dropped on Hiroshima. These images disclose some of America's secret landscapes; they mirror in both form and content the military's applications of photography for surveillance and targeting.“ (From publisher’s text; see also: www.amazon.com/Waste-Land-Meditations-Ravaged-Landscape/dp/0893817260; seen 02.2018).

Text fr. David Burnett, Sochi, 2014“ ().

Text engl. - „Charles H. Traub’s colorful and spontaneous street portraits were made between 1977 and 1980 on the streets of Chicago, New York, and various European cities. They are direct, intimate and joyous; never exploitive. These remarkable photographs celebrate the whimsy of individuals Traub approached. The photographs place the viewer in a moment of fleeting mutuality between Traub and his subject. Lively pairings drive us from one set of quirks to the next, as we associate one individual with another in a new narrative of the street. - This book is the first comprehensive publication of these images, which were exhibited in the early 80s at the Frumkin Gallery, Chicago; The Hudson River Museum, New York; and Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea, Milan. His previous book Dolce Via: Italy in the 1980s (2013) sold out worldwide only months after its release.“ (Publisher’s text; 02.2018).

Text engl. - Other ed.: Parallel edition: Santa Fe: Radius Books 2011 (same ISBN).

Text engl.- "Brooklyn’s Domino Sugar Refinery, once the largest in the world, shut down in 2004 after a long struggle. Most New Yorkers know it only as an icon on the landscape, multiplied on T-shirts and skateboard graphics. Paul Raphaelson, known internationally for his formally intricate urban landscape photographs, was given access to every square foot of the refinery weeks before its demolition. Raphaelson spent weeks speaking with former Domino workers to hear first-hand the refinery’s more personal stories. He also assembled a world-class team of contributors: Pulitzer Prize–winning photography editor Stella Kramer, architectural historian Matthew Postal, and art director Christopher Truch. The result is a beautiful, complex, thrilling mashup of art, document, industrial history, and Brooklyn visual culture." (Publisher's text; seen 02.2018).

Text engl. - „In his latest collection, Dolce Via, photographer Charles H. Traub brings an American aesthetic to the delights of the streets and byways of Italy. This volume is the first comprehensive compendium of his vivid color photographs made in early 1980s Italy, from Milan to Marsala. Characteristic of Traub’s imagery is a candid intimacy that combines humor and spontaneity, which makes us long for an Italy that maybe only once was. Brilliant blues, reds, and yellows engulf the baroque posturing and gestures of strangers and ordinary people who become fond archetypical caricatures. Traub’s friend and guide, the late photographer Luigi Ghirri, said of the imagery, “You see our foibles, strip us bare, make love through the camera, and then venerate us.” These photographs were last exhibited at the Hudson River Museum, Light Gallery New York, and Gallery Agora in Torino in the mid-1980s. - Traub has published seven previous volumes of work including Beach (1977), Italy Observed (1988), and Still Life in America (2004). He is represented by the Gitterman Gallery in New York, has exhibited in 27 solo gallery shows, and his works are in the collection of major museums worldwide. Presently, Traub is Chair of the MFA Photography, Video, and Related Media department at the School of Visual Arts in New York, and President of the Aaron Siskind Foundation. “ (Publisher’s text; 02.2018).

- Kat. Lindemanns Fotobücher, 1.
