Text engl. - Swope spent three and a half weeks in Japan in August-September 1945 on behalf of Edward Steichen, head of the Naval Aviation photographers, to photograph the release of prisoners of war. Having visited Japan before in 1930, and with his administrative and photographic expierience from the Roosevelt era, Swope found viewpoints beyond the experience of the average GI.
Text engl. - "Ansel Adams' lost photographic document of a tragic secret in the American past - the Japanese-American internment camp at Manzanar (1943)... (Adams) donated those pictures - his one venture into photojournalism - to the Library of Congress, where they remained unseen for 40 years".
