Die Aufnahmen stammen sehr wahrscheinlich von amerikanischen und britischen Armeefotografen. Die Publikation ist heute selten. Ein Exemplar befindet sich in der Bibliothek des Deutschen Gewerkschaftsbundes, Düsseldorf. - „On May 21, 1945 the American Office of War Information (OWI) began publishing a photo brochure for its Psychological Warfare Division (PWD) concerning the German concentration camps. A large number of brochures were to be published to sell in germany, however, the poor organization of the German officials shortly after the war prevented an efficient distribution of the brochure and a large number were then distributed in the prisoner of war camps. It is not known how many copies were made in total and only a few of these rare documents exist today. This brochure and other later photos played an important role as evidence in the Nuremberg Trials in 1945-1946. The photos show harrowing scenes of the liberation of Buchenwald, Belsen, Gardelegen, Nordhausen and Ohrdruf.
