„Kurata won the fifth Kimura Ihei Award in 1980 for his first book, "Flash Up." Both that book and this one tell multiple, overlapping stories, including that of the intoxicating, edgy abandon of Japanese nightlife with depictions of strippers, gangsters, and transvestites. Kurata has earned comparisons to Weegee with this imagery, however it also bears noting that he studied with Daido Moriyama for a year during the 1970s.“ (Auct.
