Text engl. - [Text at Schaden.com:] In 1994, suffering from aching knees and painfully concerned about it, Lee Friedlander decided to prepare himself for a sedentary life. He began to pursue the still life as a possibility and maybe a way of photographic life - a dramatic shift for a man who has spent his life photographing on the street, in the woods, on the road, at parties, anywhere but sitting down. He tried a variety of subjects with a few good results, but nothing stood out until he began to look at the fresh flowers that his wife Maria placed around their home in cut-glass vases. But never mind the flowers. True to Friedlanderfis style, he very quickly found himself most interested in the stems. During the months of February, May, June and December of 1994, he focused his lens on wild arrays of stems and the optical splendor produced by light refracting through the glass vases that contained them. Published in a lush, oversize volume, printed with a special drytrap process, Stems is the result of this unusual saga in the photographerfis career. Lee Friedlander and his camera have now returned to the street.

Die in der Akademie der Künste Berlin 1999/2000 präsentierte Schau wurde als Zäsur in der Rezeption und Neubewertung der Arbeiten Blossfeldts bezeichnet. In der nun vorliegenden Dokumentation des Symposiums werden bisher unbekannte Quellen zur Arbeitsweise Blossfeldts und zum Entstehungszusammenhang seiner Fotografien vorgestellt. Dabei geht es nicht ausschließlich um seine Person und die Fotografie. Im Kontext der Naturmalerei des 19./20 Jahrhunderts wird das Thema bis zur gegenwärtigen Kunstszene einschließlich der Neuen Medien reflektiert. Erstveröffentlichungen aus dem schriftlichen Nachlass Blossfeldts, Briefe und Notate aus dem Archiv der Hochschule der Künste Berlin und zahlreiche andere Dokumente machen den Band zu einem Standardwerk. - Nur Kurztitelaufnahme 07.2007.

Excellent Printing by Meridian. - Lee Friedlander (Jahrgang 1934) zählt zu den renommiertesten amerikanischen Fotografen und ist zugleich einer der eigenwilligsten Vertreter der ‘Street Photography’. Er ist ein unermüdlicher Beobachter und Chronist der ihn umgebenden Welt, die er in brillanten Schwarzweiß-Fotografien analysiert und reflektiert. Zu seinen Sujets gehören Stadtlandschaften, die Natur, Porträts sowie das Selbstporträt.
