„Das große Thema in Edward Westons Fotografie war die Suche nach der natürlichen Form. Im Mittelpunkt stehen zunächst die Aktfotografien Westons, ein Genre in dem er einen erstaunlichen Stilwandel vollzogen hat: war es in den frühen 1920er Jahren noch impressionistische Kunstfotografie, konzentrierte sich Edward Weston zunehmend auf Formen und wählte unter diesem Aspekt die Bildausschnitte immer bewusster. Bald begann die Aktfotografien mit den Landschaftsfotografien und Stillleben Westons zu korrespondieren - erinnert sei nur an die geniale Paprika-Fotografie oder die legendären Dünenbilder. Text engl. - „Robert Werling ist einer der Landschaftsfotografen Amerikas, die die große Tradition der Schwarzweißfotografie bis in unsere Tage weiterführen und pflegen. In seinem edlen Bildband ist der Einfluss seiner Lehrer Ansel Adams und Imogen Cunningham deutlich zu sehen. Das beginnt bei der Motivwahl und führt bis zu der kompromisslosen Präzision, die er bei der Aufnahme und bei der Ausarbeitung der Prints walten lässt. Großen Einfluss auf Robert Werling hatten auch seine Freunde Brett und Cole Weston. Wie diese versteht er es perfekt, die Ästhetik der naturgegebenen Formen einzusetzen, ohne den Blick für Details zu verlieren.
