Text dt., engl. - Published on the occasion of the 1995 exhibition Paul Graham: Empty heaven - photographs from Japan 1989-1995 at the Kunstmuseum, Wolfsburg, Germany. Incl. exhibition history and bibliography in a separate 12-page insert. From the publisher: "In these visceral photographs Paul Graham scrutinizes the scar tissue of contemporary Japanese society. He identifies a collective amnesia still obscuring decades after the end of WW II the memory of unconditional surrender and total defeat. At the same time he scrutinizes the benevolent and polite surfaces of Japanese culture that mask the power structures underlying it." (Antiq. Borelli, Albuquerque NM, 02.2004).

Custom-designed cherry-pink silk-covered hand-made and hand-bound
Buch, Künstlerbuch
Limited edition of 30. Book with 20 mounted original color photographs, all of which feature fake cherry blossoms seen in situ in Japan's capital city (also includes a velum-like fine paper cover page). Book is enclosed in a cherry-pink silk-covered Japanese-style hand-made four-sided hinged case (shiho chitsu, top cover and all four corners fold out when 'bone-like' clasps are removed). Four-sided hinged case size is 10 5/8 x 14 1/4 inches, book size is 10 1/2 x 13 7/8, matt size is 10 x 13 5/8 inches and print size is 7x10 inches. This edition was numbered and signed by Parr on the velum-like cover page. This special edition book was exclusively produced for eyestorm. Out-of-print. Very scarce. - From the publisher: "'Cherry Blossom Time in Tokyo' is Martin Parr's personal view of the complex mixture of ancient and modern, authentic and artificial that is modern Japan. Only those flowers in the background of the first image are real: the successive images all feature fake blooms in locations that are progressively distanced from the natural world. Seen looped around shop displays of laptops, mobile phones, cameras and necklaces, these flowers soften, and are in striking contrast to, the bright, colorful world of commerce that is focused on in the photographs.. displaying Martin Parr's sharp eye for absurdity and abundant humor."

Limited deluxe edition of 100 numbered copies, signed by Yamamoto, in a custom-made box of heavy clear acrylic, with an original toned gelatin silver print by Yamamoto (print edition of 100, signed on verso by Yamamoto, print size is 3 1/4 x 2 3/4 inches). Wood and paper scroll, 12 x 228 inches, beautifully printed on uncoated fine Japanese paper. The scroll is bound by a small loose title sheet with an attached string. The Deluxe Edition floats in an all-clear acrylic box which is larger than the wood-and-acrylic box housing the regular edition. The Deluxe Edition is also hand-chopped (stamped w/ the artist's name, using his personal "chop"), whereas on the regular edition, the "chop" is foil-stamped in red. - . - From the publisher: "Dictionary Definition of Nakazora: The space between sky and earth, the place where birds, etc. fly. Empty air. An internal hollow. Vague. Hollow. Around the center of the sky. Or, emptiness. A state when the feet do not touch the ground. Inattentiveness. The inability to decide between two things. Midway. The center of the sky (the zenith). A Buddhist term.“ Nakazora is the second publication on the work of Japanese artist Masao Yamamoto. But this is no book: the artist has designed a scroll measuring over eighteen feet long, beautifully printed in process color on uncoated Japanese stock. The timelessness of Yamamoto's imagery is beautifully echoed in scroll presentation. The scroll was one of the earliest vehicles used for storing and presenting visual information. Nakazora combines the aesthetic and tactile attributes of this traditionally one-off format with the advantages of modern printing technology. A striking marriage of traditional and hi-tech materials and production techniques, Nakazora redefines the term 'artists' book.'"

The artist has used the accordion format to create an installation which measures some 14 feet when fully opened, but which can also be viewed as 45 individual spreads. Photographs and text by Moriyama. Designed by Naomichi Kawahata. Includes a photographically illustrated folded broadsheet laid-in (14 1/4 x 19 7/8 inches), with text by Moriyama (in English and Japanese, translated by Lisa Louis and Hitoshi Shigeta) and 14 additional b/w reproductions. Beautifully printed full-bleed by Nissha Printing Co., Ltd., Japan. One of the best books published on Moriyama's work, reminiscent (in design and raw, gritty photographic style), of 'Bye, Bye Photography, Dear' (1972) and his first book 'Japan: A Photo Theater' (1968). One of the very best photography books published in recent years, and certain to become a landmark book of Moriyama's work! Out-of-print (sold out prior to publication). - From the publisher: "A few decades since then, Shuji Terayama has already died, and the current town of Shinjuku shows signs of becoming a near future city. The real and the virtual, pleasure and pathos are entangled night and day, and this becomes a huge stadium where the gathering crowds wander, holding their raggle taggle desires. There is no place for which words such as "melting pot" or "purgatory" are more suited than the town of Shinjuku." - Also available as limited edition of 500 unnumbered copies, signed (in English, "Daido") in silver marker recto the half-title page by Moriyama.

Text engl., jap. - Photographs by Masao Yamamoto. Texts by Shintaro Ajioka (English translation by Yumiko Urae) and Hiromi Nakamura, Curator, Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography (English translation by Lisa Louis and Hitoshi Shigeta), in a separate 10-page folding insert. Printed on lush Italian paper. Debossed stiff wrappers made of black Fabriano (published only in wraps) in stiff paper slipcase. From the publisher: "The photographs of Japanese artist Masao Yamamoto remind one of postcards or snapshots, records of intimate moments that are at once fleeting and eternal, private and universal. Bent, frayed and stained, the jewel-like prints - most of which are small enough to fit into the palm of a hand - transcend their medium and become more than their subject."
